Care to Repair, Mending Workshop, Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool

Workshop
12:00 (UK) 09:00 (BR) 17:30 (IN)

Saturday 12th Feb, 12 – 3pm

In this hands-on workshop you will learn simple techniques to repair your clothes. This workshop is for all levels of skill and experience, no sewing experience is necessary. Come and share your skills and learn new ones. Bring an item of clothing that you would like to repair – a jumper with a hole, a ripped pair of jeans. Materials will be provided but do bring scissors, fabric scraps and embroidery threads if you have them.

Book here via Eventbrite.

The workshop will focus on three different kinds of visible mending techniques, inspired by visible mending practices from across the world such as Japanese Sashiko. Woven or darning, patched on top and patching from underneath the hole.

There is no such place as away – every time we throw things away we add to the growing mountains of waste, if we want to be more sustainable we have to keep using the things we already have. Mending brings us into a closer relationship with materials, mending is something you can easily do for yourself and others. It’s a practice of kindness and care – to yourself, to your belongings and the planet.

As part of this workshop we are inviting you to submit a picture of your repaired item to the TALES OF CARE AND REPAIR website, joining a repair movement that’s changing how we think about the things we use every day.
