Visit TALES OF CARE AND REPAIR in Liverpool as part of Open Eye Gallery’s Look Climate Lab (13th Jan-20th March, 2022).
In order to understand how we can become more actively involved in making change, recognising progress, and making climate change a more understandable topic, Open Eye has invited partners to take over the gallery, to use it as a lab space, to show work in progress and talk through ideas. The lab features workshops, exhibitions, research projects, and talks relating to the climate emergency.
Look Climate Lab asks the question, what are the images that we think of when we think of climate change, and what is our social responsibility when it comes to reshaping this visual narrative?
The Lab is organised into five themes of energy, materials, transport, nature, and food.
TALES OF CARE AND REPAIR is part of the materials theme which features hands-on workshops to give people the chance to get involved in repairing and mending items and learning more about the mass production of clothing and its detrimental environmental impact. This website will feature in the lab and we will be inviting visitors to upload their repair stories and join our repair movement. On 12th Feb. Dawn Giles, our UK producer will lead a Care to Repair workshop on visible mending techniques for clothing. Information and booking here via eventbrite.
Open Eye Gallery is a Liverpool based arts organisation with a focus on photography. They produce exhibitions, long-term collaborative projects, publications, festivals, and university courses — locally and worldwide. They take a lead on socially engaged photography nationally. Bringing different voices, photographers and communities together, they establish projects where the collaborative process is just as important as the final product.
